What is a midlife transition?

Simply said, a midlife transition is a change that we go through during the middle years. It is common around 45 years of age, as we begin showing various signs of aging. Some may experience it earlier or later and the duration of this phase also varies from person to person. While it is common to all, people experiencing hormonal changes, menopause, and andropause, those with medical conditions or chronic health problems may be more vulnerable.

As a natural part of aging, we mature and experience many changes in our life. Our roles and responsibilities often expand as we try to accommodate more tasks in our life. The midlife transition occurs during the middle years, as we realise aging, changes related to it, mortality and experience the passing away of near ones. We may experience worries related to our looks, weight, relationships and any aspect of our life. It is because of the different changes occurring during the middle ages that your body and mind need time to get adjusted to.

How to have healthy midlife?

While the midlife transition is a natural change, it may also bring some undesirable effects, which may affect our emotional and physical health. Certain concepts of aging, physical and emotional changes make us wonder and worry about our own health and life. Health problems or chronic illnesses in the family can add to our worries at this stage.

While some experience workplace worries, some have relationship issues. The midlife transition revolves around our health, aging, and abilities to do our tasks. Creeping in health issues, weight gain, chronic pain or stress and inability to perform certain activities, commonly result in midlife worries. These problems gradually affect us emotionally and also result in further health problems.
